How to Compress an Image to 50KB

Reduce a photo for an online application without guessing the output size.

Some online forms require photos or signatures below a specific maximum size, such as 50KB. A phone picture can be several megabytes, so simply changing its name to .jpg will not fix the file size.

Step 1: Check your requirements

Read the form carefully: does it say under 50KB, or does it also specify dimensions such as 300×300 pixels? Both limits matter.

Step 2: Upload your image

Open our free image compressor. Choose a JPG, PNG, or WebP file from your device.

Step 3: Set the dimensions and target

If the website requires exact width and height, enter them. If you must use a square shape, crop the photo appropriately before resizing so it does not look stretched. Set the target size to 50KB and choose JPG or WebP.

Step 4: Process and verify

Click Process Image. Verify the output file size and image dimensions before downloading. If a 50KB target cannot be reached at your chosen dimensions without severe quality loss, reduce dimensions only if the application allows it.

Important: A tiny file size can make passport photographs and text blurry. Always follow the actual form requirements instead of compressing more than necessary.
